Year of the Byrds 16/52

Happy Aloha Friday, y’all!

We kicked off our week with a donut picnic on the lanai…

…Lyla was a big helper with Simon Earl…

…we spent a few rainy mornings at home…

…and serenaded all of Target with Lyla’s rendition of “Let It Go”…

…we played with our friends at Miss Mary’s music class…

…Simon Earl kept me company while I tried to catch up on some cleaning…

…my car’s battery died and Alex saved the day…

…Lyla pretended to be “night night” a billion times…

…we went to a horse rescue and had SO much fun (more on this later)…

…Simon let me know how he feels about selfies…

…and had some quality time with Mickey…

…and daddy…

…and we had some special mama/baby time at the coffee farm.

Aulani Staycation

We love having visitors. Especially of the family variety 😉

Last month, Alex’s sister and her family came to visit us for a week and Papa joined too. We were lucky enough to join them at Aulani for a few nights. It was so much fun watching the cousins play together. Lyla still talks about it – “Emmy. G. Papa. Huwa (hula). Fish! Kick kick kick (for swimming)” – and we watch this video on repeat. It’s so sweet.

Year of the Byrds 2/52

This week FLEW by, didn’t it? Between playdates and swim lessons and spending as much time as possible outdoors (the weather has been an absolute dream lately) I didn’t find much time to open my computer but I did spend some time brainstorming new content for this space so make sure to stop by in the next few weeks for that!

But, until then, here’s a peek at life with the Byrds this week:

On Saturday morning Simon and I headed to church for One Creative Day – a training program for all of the children’s ministry volunteers. I’ve been serving on Sunday nights with AWANA and am now going to be helping out in the nursery during one of the Sunday services. The training was so much fun and Simon was his usual well behaved self. While we were busy there, Lyla and Alex got to have a sweet daddy/daughter date at the zoo.

When we met back up, we headed to the beach for some family time. Clearly, Lyla was thrilled. (really, she was)IMG_0745IMG_0756IMG_0752IMG_0775IMG_0776IMG_0807

Sunday morning we all went to church and then headed home for a picnic lunch at the beach. It was so nice. I think it may have to turn into a weekly thing. Alex has been super busy at work lately and still continues to be a rock star at home by helping me with the kids and chores so, on Sunday night, I took both of the kids to AWANA with me and left him to enjoy some peace and quiet.

It was so much fun watching Lyla at AWANA. She hung out with the older kids during the opening ceremony/worship time and she made herself right at home by clapping and dancing along with everyone else. At one point she realized that she wasn’t standing on the line with the rest of the clubbers and quickly scooted her tiny self in between two kids. Precious.

During counsel time, I dropped her off in the nursery where she colored pictures of Adam and “Ella”. Cinderella was in the Garden of Eden, right?

We started Lyla in swim lessons on Tuesday which we are all really excited about. After her lesson, we picked up Simon and headed straight to Aulani to celebrate with more swimming (and a Mickey ice cream sandwich for good measure).

We really are blessed to live in such a beautiful place. Have a great weekend, folks!

Year of the Byrds 1/52

Whew! Week one of 2016 is in the books. I hope your year is off to as great of a start as ours is.

One of my goals for this year is to use this space to record our family’s growth. Like most people, I’m way better at pulling out my phone to grab quick photos than taking out the DSLR. Most of the time, those photos don’t make it to this here blog so every Friday I’m going to make it a point to share some of my favorite snapshots of our week with you here!

We started off the New Year tako (octopus) hunting at Hunakai Beach. The weather was absolutely perfect, Lyla rocked her life jacket and Simon Earl took a nice nap in the shade.

Simon Earl is sweet as ever. He’s been smiling up a storm lately and it melts my little mama heart every time.

Our Lyla girl loves art. Painting, drawing, coloring with chalk – it’s all good in her book and we spend many an afternoon making art together.

On Tuesday I braved the zoo with both kids on my own. Lyla had a blast running from exhibit to exhibit and was so proud to show me that she knew the noises that the animals made. She is at such a fun age and I am loving every second of it.

We ran into a nice group of moms (and their children) at the playground earlier in the week and they invited us to join their playdate at the beach Thursday morning. It was so great to meet new friends that live here in our neighborhood and I’m really looking forward to next week.

Have a great weekend!

Are you still here?

I told you there were a lot of pictures.

Since I don’t plan on being awake for the big countdown (unless Simon Earl decides he wants a little midnight snack), I decided to share the countdown of things I want to work on in the new year here:

10. give myself grace

9. teach Lyla how to swim

8. be present

7. eat clean(er)

6. lose the baby weight

5. cook my way through a cookbook

4. send more snail mail

3. open my Bible

2. have a “no spend” month

1. live intentionally

Happy New Year, folks! Have fun tonight, be safe and I’ll see you on the other side 🙂
