Gift Guide for the Disney Lover (and a giveaway!)

There are only two weeks left until Christmas. Can you believe it?!

I’m hoping to get some Christmas shopping done between doctors appointments today so, in the spirit of gift-giving, I’m sharing with you a gift guide for the Disney lover in your life. Plus, I have a fun giveaway for a Disney-inspired T-Shirt so make sure to enter at the end of this post!

gift guide for disney lover

Rooney & Renee T-Shirt || Everyone loves a good T-Shirt, right? Rooney & Renee created a line of Disney-inspired shirts that are not only cute but super soft and comfortable.

Vans || Disney and Vans – could there be a sweeter collaboration? They recently released a few new styles, just in time for Christmas, and I am loving The Jungle Book print.

Watch || A nice watch is a timeless Christmas gift (ha – see what I did there?!) and I love this tortoiseshell option from the Disney Store. Your Disney lover could dress it up or keep it casual while still rocking their Disney side. P.S. Did you know that tortoiseshell was one word?! I didn’t until today 😉

Bracelet || Alex and Ani bangles make a great gift. They have TONS of different styles (not only Disney) and can be really fun to collect. I have a Cinderella’s Castle and Aulani bangle and would like to get one for every trip we take. They recently released some Star Wars bangles that would be perfect for this holiday season.

Purse || I’ve got a thing for bags and, while I’ve never splurged on a brand-name bag, I’ve had this bad boy on my list for years. If your Disney lover is a bag-lady like me, I’m sure they will love it.

Movie Tickets || Surprise your loved one with tickets to see the latest Disney flick (hello, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) even if they go to see it on opening night.

Disney Day || Is the Disney lover in your life lucky enough to live near a Disney theme park? Give them the gift of a Disney day! Bonus points if you include a ticket for a friend.

Cruise || If you really want to wow your Disney fan, surprise them with a Disney Cruise. Seriously, their cruises are the best and perfect for all ages. I’m all about experience gifts and this one would definitely top the cake (or the Mickey ice-cream sundae)

Our friends at Rooney & Renee are giving away one of their awesome shirts to one of my readers.

They recently sent me a shirt of my choice (I went with the Mermaid Lagoon shirt pictured on the left) so that I could provide an honest review and, guys, I swear this is the softest, most comfortable shirt that I own right now. The fit is great (I went with medium) and it held up perfectly in the wash. I love how subtle the Disney reference is and I’ve already got my eye on a few others.

Want one for yourself? All you have to do is visit their website, check out the designs and leave a comment here telling me which shirt you would choose. I’ll leave the giveaway open until Sunday, December 13th and choose a winner on Monday morning.

Good luck!

DIY Photo Strip Bookmarks

As the summer starts winding down, so does the busy wedding season which is always a bummer because I love weddings. I also love photo booths. So when the bride and groom bring a photo booth to their wedding, I am one happy camper.

The photo strips are such a fun souvenir but I never really knew what to do with them once we got home. Do I hang them on the fridge? Put them in a frame? Cut them up into wallet photos?! After our friend’s wedding last weekend, I brought home our photo strips and was determined to figure out a creative way to keep them displayed.

Enter the photo strip bookmark.

These were insanely easy to make and I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before! If you have any fun photo strips laying around, I highly suggest you make these ASAP!

SUPPLIES || single-hole punch, scissors, heavy card stock, glue, photo strips and embellishments (I used embroidery floss and some seashell pendants but you could substitute with your favorite ribbon, beads, feathers, etc)

STEP 1 || Glue your photo strips onto your heavy cardstock. Once dry, cut to size.

STEP 2 || Punch a hole into the top of your photo strip while ignoring my poor, neglected nails.

STEP 3 || String your embellishments through the punched hole.

STEP 4 || Insert bookmark into your favorite book and enjoy!

Insanely easy, right? I told you! What is your favorite wedding souvenir?

Shoutout to my girl, Ali, for originally featuring this on her blog. Check out A Dream Crafter for some fun back to school project tutorials and an awesome tic-tac-toe game . Happy crafting!

DIY Summertime Placemat

This week flew by, didn’t it? I thought time was supposed to move slower on vacation. Rude.

Anyways, our time in Michigan is wrapping up so if you need me I’ll be fishing, picking strawberries, riding 4-wheelers, listening to grandpa’s stories and smelling the basement (yes, smelling the basement – my cousins can vouch for me, it is one of the best smells ever).

While I’m busy doing Michigan things, take a peek at my tutorial for a summertime placemat over on Simply Liv.

Up next for the Byrds, California!

dear santa…

Dear Santa,

Hope you are getting the rest you need to prepare for your big trip! Going around the world in one night sounds pretty exhausting. As a new mommy, I can definitely relate. Hawaii should be one of your last stops so if you think you will be burnt out on cookies and milk and want a different kind of pick-me-up, you let me know.

It seems a little early to be making our Christmas lists but since you need time to prepare your list and check it twice, I figured I better get going on them. Don’t want you to have to wait for the last minute!

Lyla and I have been really good this year, but you already know that. The whole seeing us when we are sleeping and knowing when we are awake thing is borderline creepy, but since you are such a jolly fella I’m going to look past it.

Keeping with the newly established Byrd family tradition of “want, need, wear, read”, I’ve organized our lists as such. You’re welcome.

I went all out on the “want” section – in case you have elves looking for overtime. Also, I had a really hard time with the “need” section. We are very blessed to have all of our needs met – shelter, food and love are in abundance for my little Byrd bunch and we are so grateful for that. So just for list-making and theming purposes, I included toilet paper.

I hope you are a fast reader cause this letter was pretty long and you haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet! So without further adieu, our lists:

Mama’s Christmas List

WANT || a mom car – a Ford Explorer or minivan would be nice | iMac for blogging/photo editing/video making reasons | a delicate stacking ring to represent my not so delicate little lady

NEED || toilet paper

WEAR || this ezra + eli shirt | a new hat for morning when mama doesn’t get a shower

READ || a good cookbook | a daily devotional

Lyla’s Christmas List

WANT || these awesome wooden alphabet blocks | B. Zany Zoo Wooden Activity Cube

NEED || diapers, I like Huggies and I wear size 3

WEAR || any of the adorable Tuck and Elle leggings | the ‘love one another’ t-shirt from Mama Said Tees | this sweet pineapple headband

READ || one of mama’s favorites, Madeline | The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter

We will see you real soon, Santa!

The Byrd ladies

**Disclaimer: I am very thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. I do not need, nor do I think I need, these things to be happy. They are just things. Writing a letter to Santa is just a fun little tradition. So there.

baby bouquets

They say there is something in the water.

Since I started in my office a year ago, there has always been at least three girls who are pregnant at the same time. It’s pretty exciting – I mean, who doesn’t love sweet little babies?!

Three of the girls are due in October/November so yesterday there was a joint baby shower honoring these mothers-to-be. For their gifts, I put together these baby bouquets. I’ve made some before, and they are always a hit.

See all that blue? All three of the mamas are having boys – how fun is that?!

Each bouquet included a burp cloth, onesie, a newborn hat, and some pacifiers. I also included some artificial flowers as filler. If you are feeling super creative, you could skip the filler and make the whole thing out of baby items 🙂

Other supplies I needed were a flower pot (or tin pail in this case), scotch tape, ribbon, scissors, wire cutters, wooden dowels and floral foam.

To make the “flower” I simply rolled each baby item up then tied a ribbon around it to hold everything together. Then, I stuck the rolled item onto a wooden dowel which acted as a stem. For the heavier items, you may need some scotch tape to help hold up the flower. Once I had all the baby items wrapped, I placed the floral foam into the tin pails and started making the arrangement. The artificial flowers and leaves went in last and served as my filler.

Super easy right? What other items would you include in your baby bouquet?
