When it comes to home decorating, I’m usually a DIY-gal. It’s not unusual for Alex and I to jump in our truck and cruise the neighborhood on bulk trash day, looking for our next piece of fix-it furniture. In our last apartment, I don’t think one piece of furniture didn’t come from either Goodwill or the side of the road.
Our current home is also filled with these sorts of treasures, and I love most of them. The one area of our house that just hasn’t come together for me is our living room. There is no real color scheme, our pieces are mismatched (and not in the chic, I’m-a-designer kind of way), and our photo frames are hanging on the wall photo-less (yes, a year after we moved in – shame on me!)
I think my frustration with our living room blah-ness is justified. Lucky for me, Alex is wonderful and has given me the green light to re-do the living room (woo!)
I’ll be working with a modest budget but plan on letting myself splurge (sort of) on items that I know will pull the living room together and make our house feel even more like a home. Stepping away from the “if it’s not free, it’s too much” mindset will be a little bit of a challenge for me but I will still be searching for deals and plan on coming in under budget.
My inspiration piece for the redo is this pillow that we found at Ross last week:
When I really have my mind set on something, I tend to get it done pretty quickly. And right now, my mind is set on cozying up the living room. In fact, as soon as I hit “publish” I’ll be on my way so stay tuned for more updates soon!
