edible finger paint

As a mostly stay at home mom (I still work one day a week) I try my best to keep Lyla entertained and stimulated.

We read books, sing songs and dance around the living room. We take walks, go to the park and play fetch with Rocco on the daily.

But yesterday was one of those days where our normal activities weren’t cutting it. I was exhausted and Lyla was ready to party. Our living room was a disaster and every minute we spent inside I was trying to convince myself that another cup of coffee would be a bad idea. (ha – like coffee is ever a bad idea)

Finger painting with Lyla had been on my list for a while but I didn’t want to use paint because the whole “I’m going to stick anything and everything in my mouth” thing.

Then, a few weeks ago, I read about edible finger paint and I figured that I could probably make my own. We were already on a fast track to bathsville so I figured it was the perfect time to try!

It was super easy and took all of 30 seconds. All I did was add a few drops of food coloring to a container of plain greek yogurt and we had ourselves some non-toxic finger paint. taaadaaaaa!

(pretend that we only painted with red because I’m super on top of things and am getting us in the spirit of Valentine’s Day – not that I only had one container of yogurt and had to borrow food coloring from my neighbor)

In the backyard I put down a big piece of kraft paper, stripped her down to her diaper and let her go. She had tons of fun painting the paper, painting Rocco and eating the grass paint. Clean up was a breeze — I just crumpled up the paper and threw it away and brought the bean girl straight to the bath.

We will definitely try this again soon…next time with more colors.

  1. Natasha! It’s your long lost childhood friend, Lauren. (You know, from da UP?!) Anyway, our baby beans are really close in age and I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog. Your thoughts are my thoughts most days, despite living on opposite sides of the globe. Just wanted to say Hi and let you know I’ll be prepping edible finger paint as soon as it’s warm enough outside.
