cinderella inspired watercolor project

Here’s a fun fact that you may or may not know about me: I used to work inside Cinderella’s castle. I was a slave to the princesses and all of the guests dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table. It was definitely one of the best jobs that I have ever had and I still miss it sometimes.  So, when I saw that my girl Cindy was getting her own movie, I knew that I had to check it out!

I loved it so much more than I thought I would. Everyone who worked on the film did a tremendous job of bringing the classic story back to life in a way that would appeal to today’s culture while staying true to it’s fairytale roots. It was visually stunning and the acting was on point.

Of course, I loved the message too. Especially now that I am a mother, the idea of teaching my children to always “have courage and be kind” is very appealing. I have always been a believer that kindness will take you far in this world and I loved having that reminder woven throughout the movie.

The uplifting message stayed with me throughout the weekend so on Sunday I put together a Cinderella inspired watercolor project for myself and cousin to do.

We started off by sketching some things that reminded us of the movie. A glass slipper, a beautiful ball gown, etc. Then we just watercolored (is that a word?) away – using lots of blue hues. To spruce up our paintings, we accented with Martha Stewart Gold Liquid Guilding and glitter. Because no craft is complete without glitter amiright?

This would be a perfect project to do with your kids after seeing the movie. It’s quick, easy, cheap and requires minimal set-up/clean-up. It can also be a great conversation starter as you talk about the movie and some of the ‘bigger picture’ themes.

Now, I know I’m not an excellent painter. And my lettering skills on this project leave something to be desired. But I’m practicing having courage by posting our final products, so be kind 😉
