our life in the aloha state

A few weeks ago we hiked Waimea Falls with our friends. It’s such a beautiful trail and it’s perfect for the distracted pace of toddlers 😉
Dearest Husband,
God knew just what he was doing when he put you into my life.
He knew I would need a cheerleader. Someone positive and encouraging. Someone to continuously push me forward.
He knew I would need someone low-key. To keep me balanced. To help me slow down.
He knew I would need someone funny. Someone to crack a joke when I am taking things too seriously.
He knew I would need a teacher. Someone full of knowledge, ready to dispose it onto me.
He knew I would need someone easy-going. Someone to put up with my whimsical ideas and grand plans.
He knew I would need a partner. Someone who will pick up my slack without a saying a word.
He knew I would need a rock. Someone to anchor myself to when the seas got rough.
(Almost) ten years ago when we first said “hello” on the football field at California Lutheran University, I didn’t know you were these things. (I just thought you were cute).
I didn’t know I needed these things.
But God knew.
And I am forever grateful.
Thank you for being my person. Then, now and always.
I love you.
P.S. We need more photos together 😉
Because I’m feeling nostalgic and Lyla is about to turn two.
It’s hard to believe that Lyla is turning two this week. Time is moving way too fast – but you know that. What you might not know is that we celebrated over the weekend.
We kept things simple and invited a bunch of Lyla’s little friends over for some cake and ice cream and then sent them all into a bounce house in the backyard. Basically, we loaded them up with sugar and let them burn it off. It was perfect!
I picked up the tablecloth, cake stand and Lyla’s cute little leggings from Target. I ordered her balloons from Etsy and my super talented friend, Charron, made the cake topper. I would have liked to make all of the decorations but, really, aintnobodygottimeforthat. I did, however, make some fun ice cream cone garland. #DIYerforlife
It’s so fun to see Lyla building relationships with other children. She has such a sweet group of friends (and their parents rock too). We had a ton of fun and are so thankful for everyone who came to celebrate our two year old with us.
Happy Aloha Friday, y’all!
We kicked off our week with a donut picnic on the lanai…
…Lyla was a big helper with Simon Earl…
…we spent a few rainy mornings at home…
…and serenaded all of Target with Lyla’s rendition of “Let It Go”…
…we played with our friends at Miss Mary’s music class…
…Simon Earl kept me company while I tried to catch up on some cleaning…
…my car’s battery died and Alex saved the day…
…Lyla pretended to be “night night” a billion times…
…we went to a horse rescue and had SO much fun (more on this later)…
…Simon let me know how he feels about selfies…
…and had some quality time with Mickey…
…and daddy…
…and we had some special mama/baby time at the coffee farm.
God is so, so good.
